When we first envisioned the idea of creating living undersea memorials and helping families find closure in a positive and uplifting way, our goal was to create a uniquely different, environmentally-inspired life celebration befitting of the new century. All these years later, we have shared the essence of “The Great Burial Reef® Difference” with hundreds of families and individuals across the country:

The Ocean Cremation Urn™ is the only concrete artificial reef building block that safely protects your loved one’s remains inside its unique Care Chamber™. Unlike ocean scattering and other cremation-based artificial reef programs that mix the remains directly into the concrete, the unique Care Chamber™ safely protects your loved one’s remains from natural phenomena, human activity, and the ravages of time… for generations.
Great Burial Reef® perform ocean placements one individual/one family at a time. One of the driving philosophies of our founders is that the dignity of the individual is inviolate. That’s why we perform each and every ocean placement individually. We believe it is our sacred responsibility to honor every individual we bury at sea with the dignity, respect, and individuality that each deserves.
Participation is optional. While we find that many families are able to find closure and begin the healing process by joining us at sea and witnessing their loved one’s ocean placement, we also understand that there are reasons why participation is neither practical nor possible. The decision to travel with us to sea is completely yours. We perform each ocean placement with dignity, regardless of whether we have an audience, and once completed, you’ll know the final resting place of your loved one because we provide a Certificate of Ocean Placement detailing the date, time, depth and precise GPS coordinates for every Ocean Cremation Urn™ we place.
Ocean placements are arranged based on your family’s needs and schedule. One of the most important things we’ve learned about loss and memorialization is that it’s not always optimal to say good-bye immediately. Unlike traditional burial choices, which usually require immediate action, a Great Burial Reef® ocean placement can be scheduled whenever you wish. We are available 365 days a year from multiple locations with as little notice as 72 hours. But don’t feel like you are required to rush. Take the time you need to make the necessary arrangements, gather family and friends, coordinate travel or whatever you need to do, and let us know what date and time work for you, and we’ll schedule the ocean placement accordingly.
Family Witness Services are completely personalized. Though there are some common elements to our Family Witness Services, each family experience is unique because we believe it’s your day, and we’re just there to facilitate. We’ll help you design your memorial experience in any way you see fit. Every element of a Great Burial Reef® life celebration is customizable – from the music to the dedication ceremony, from the food and beverage you wish to bring to the clothes you wear. Our goal is simple, but steadfast – to help you celebrate the life of your loved one in any way you choose.
